The worst part is it's worse than the picture shows. It's pretty deep and appears that it happened way more than one time. It was still at the LGS Saturday when I was there. Kimbers and glocks never stay in the used case very long there but I have a feeling this one will be.

Probably after the first scratch he didn't care anymore and just put that slide release back in without caring

Tape sounds like a goid idea. I keep worrying about doing the same exact thing, I may just put a piece of tape on mine and just keep it on in that area.

I do not think leaving tape on your gun is the best solution, here are a couple reasons why:
1. It will detract from the looks of the gun
2. Leaving tape there may leave a sticky residue behind if and when you remove it.
3.When you clean your gun with any solvents or wipe your gun down with a gun oiled cloth it will cause your tape to deteriorate thus looking more like Doo-doo

I think 2sharp2 's Idea of a guitar pick is a better idea it is removable as soon as the the slide release is back in place. I have seen where people have put tape on surfaces wood ,metal etc. and left there then it takes solvents and razor blades to remove it and takes the finish off with it.
Just my 2%
