Breaking in my Conversion Kit.

While I have some older copper splash HV rounds that I bought years ago, I stopped off at Gander Mountain and discussed the issue with the officer that taught our credentials class.

He's been in law enforcement for 31 years, so I thought he might know more than I did.

It turns out that lots of guys use the mini-mags for break-in. Worst case scenario, they wind up in the 10/22 rifle.

I'd like to know what you guys think. Remember, this is for break-in only to wear in the slide rails and other bearing surfaces. Admittedly, I am not a .22LR guy, and I'd like some feedback.

BTW, this Friday I get another eye exam. The time is getting near to get my life back, and I'm looking forward to this conversion kit!

I agree, the mini-mags should be a great break-in round. BTW...it is also the recommended round for my Beretta Bobcat. So, I don't see how it would be a problem in your conversion kit set up. Let us know how it turns out.

Just to clarify...Mini-Mag (CCI trade mark) loads are 22 LR HP hollow point rounds and NOT 22 mag rounds.

Not for nothing though. Why confuse the term?

Yes, a "mini-mag" is just a trade name for a HV .22LR, but recommended for the break-in use of a conversion kit with a standard factory strength spring.

I figured a new conversion kit would be "tight," so I asked about the best load for this period. The guy (a man I trust) led me straight to this round.

I don't have the conversion kit but the whole gun and have had it since 2009. I've shot I don't know how many rounds through it and it will only work with the mini-mags. The round gives me great reliability and I use the pistol as a cheaper option training gun.

I've always found the CCI ammo to be top of the line for .22LR. Years ago I had a Browning lever action .22 that would ONLY work reliably using CCI "stinger" ammo. It's even harder to find than the "mini mags" but if you wind up having cycling issues it may be worth finding. Have you hit the range with the new set-up?

Just walked into the house from my appointment with The Gurkha. He is going to work out a list of things (and limits) on what I can lift, how far I can ride what I can shoot (at this point).

Conventional wisdom says I can fire the conversion kit until I wear it out...
