Seems nobody is buying ammo

Cabelas had a 5 hour doorbuster sale this morning. Regularly $369 on sale for $299 was 5.56 Nato 1000 rounds in a steel ammo can. First in the store and the only customer for about 20 minute; I was surprised that they only had a dozen cans total.

Big sale that they must expect nobody to take advantage of?

I grabbed one, and one more for my neighbor, so I nearly cleaned them out.

Hell the can is worth >$20 and I had a coupon for $20 off. 28c a round plus a cool can, maybe I should have bought more....

Nor have I. Ashamed to say I just haven't been shooting as much this year due mainly to all of the house maint. issues. I do plan on keeping my ears open for any good .223/5.56 ammo sales though.

Sounds like you got a good deal...and a steel ammo can to boot.

The only factory ammo I have bought in years was rimfire and shot shells. I reload everything else. Though I do have quite a bit of factory stored up.
Yea. Keep telling yourself that split times donít matter.

All last year when the way our government was going was questionable I stopped buying guns and bought ammo, lots and lots of ammo.

My guess is that most ammo sales are purchased online now instead of from the brick and mortar stores. With a couple of clicks on a pc why would anyone need to leave the comfort of their living room and buy ammo when it can be dropped off at your front door.

It's not only the American companies that are selling ammo because sales of ammo being imported is at an all time high.

Buying ammo

I reload a lot and shoot a lot. I have been buying factory 9mm and .45 mainly because I can buy it cheaper than I can reload it. I can get 1000 rds of 9mm delivered to my door for $175.00. I still load .38, .357, and .44 for my revolvers. I have a large stock of "good" .22 LR, and now only buy the high end pistol stuff when it's on sale. I've been playing the Coupon+Sale+Rebate game with Cabela's and the Remington and Winchester promos for awhile. I've received $120.00 in rebates this year. Example: My total cost for Rem. .38 fmj (reg. $16.99) was $11.75 ...saving over $50.00 bucks on 10 boxes. I invest in precious metals...Copper, Lead and Brass.

I hate to plead poverty, myself, but we had a lot of bills for doctors and new appliances over the last year.

But in defense, I've been a target shooter since 1974, and in moving to this new home a few years ago I was amazed at how much stuff I had squirreled away.

I know you guys will laugh now, but I had visions of a total societal collapse, and the rise of culture akin to "Mad Max." As an example, as I gathered loose boxes hither and yon, I found I had 21,000 primers.

I decided to quit casting, so I then had to sell off 1,200 ingot bars of lead, tin and solder. Talk about OCD...

Same here. Pistol Ammo, I'm ready for the Zombie Apocalypse. I've been looking for a deal on 223/5.56 ammo for awhile now. This the best I've seen. Bring on the inevitable Zombie Outbreak, now that I'm loaded and I've helped load up the neighbors too.

My Wife would disagree with that statement!!!! The UPS Man makes a regular stop at our house, she comes in and says their are a couple of boxes in the garage and they are too heavy for me to lift. I buy when the getting is good.
