Personal Protection

What would the majority of raptor .380 owners recommend for protection rounds? I have tried Hornady and really like them but, am open to suggestions. Thanks!

I don't have the raptor 380, I have a 380 CDP but I use Fiocchi XTP HP.

Check out the testing data on self-defense loads (by caliber) on this website:

I like the Hornady Critical Defense in my .380 and some of my other guns. Since I don't really go around gunfighting, I look at the terminal ballistics tests that others conduct. From that data, I think Hornady makes a pretty good product.

Agreement on Hornady Critical Defense ammo

I have carried Hornady Critical Defense ammo in my 9mm and my EDC Kimber .45 for quite some time. The testing data also show this is excellent ammo for .380 and .40. In my opinion you can't go wrong with Hornady Critical Defense.

I don't own a 380 but I do a lot of ammo testing just for my own information. I like to know how a load is going to perform in my gun. Most of my shooting is 9mm, .38, .357 and .45 but the idea is the same...find what works in your gun.

Auto pistols, regardless of maker, can be ammo and bullet sensitive. This is especially true of hollow points. Bullet weight and speed can effect the point-of-aim of a given gun as well. What shoots great in your friends S&W might shoot two feet low in your Kimber.

I would always suggest that anyone with a new carry pistol pick up several loads from several makers. Different bullet weights and designs. Find the "one" that works the best in your gun ...so you'll know. I found it easy to come up with almost a dozen .38s for testing ...it's a golden age for ammo.

I haven't bought any self defense ammo for my Micro 380 but I carry Hormady in my 9mm and my 45 mm. Been wanting to try some FM Hollow Points but haven't.

Found the personal protection that I like and going to stick with Hornady. Now, I have found a range ammo that I like and cannot find it anywhere local. It's Aguila and very hard to find, its out everywhere near me and even the bulk store that has the best price is out. Anyone have another range round they like?

I have been using Freedom Munitions for a couple years and highly recommend them. I just received some of their XTP hollow points but haven’t used them yet. Looks like a good defense round. Will post when I get a chance to get to the range.
