Making Room In Safe

So I've got some ammo cans and a heavy duty fireproof safe taking up space in my regular gun safe, now that most of the newly acquired rifles have scopes that requires even more space. I didn't want to just take it out of safe and stick in a closet or basement. What I bought is not burglar proof but is lockable and would take more than casual effort to get into.

I have been trying to locate this item since last Nov...not available to order direct from StackOn, all online dealers all across the country show item "Out Of Stock." Sportsman Warehouse was a dealer there customer service girl went above and beyond trying to find me one. I gave up.

The other day I went to Cabelas looking for different bullet weights of 300Blackout ammo to try, a few other items on my list. I was looking around and BAM there it sit. I told salesman "I'll take it." It couldn't be to heavy I needed to be able to move it myself. It weighs about 98 pounds and is 55" tall, should fit in the hall closet after I make some space for it. Oh has 4 shelves they say will hold 75 pounds each.

Wow, I can't believe you found one of these. I bought one last winter at Cabela's but soon found it wasn't going to be enough for my needs, I wanted another one. I went back to Cabela's and they had one left … it was damaged, and had no keys. I asked the guy if he would mark it down a little and I would buy it as is. Management said no.

I asked the fancy shirt guy to order me one … can't we don't list them anymore.

I've contacted Stack-On twice by their email "contact us" on their website, just to see who was carrying them … no response either time. I too have searched the internet to no avail. I can't find them anywhere. Oh... I found out later that the damaged one was sold to a Cabela's employee.

Once I moved in my .22s I had room for about a third of my 9mm. I need one for the rest of the 9, .45, .38, .357 and .44 Did a count on my 22s …. 17,800 rounds... I don't think I'll ever run out again.

Yeah I kinda got the impression it was something like this since they refused to respond to my emails. Oh well I'll find something else to store my ammo in.

Yep, "Discontinued" that's the word on the streets and internet. But I know where there is a floor display remaining and the keys are in the door.

As my collection grew, I had Stack On cabinets. Bought a couple used ones and a new one. All I had went into new safe. So what I did was rip everything out of the cabinets. Went to HD and bought black wall shelving. Cut them to length, drilled cabinet and installed them. So now I have nice, well keyed cabinets for ammo or whatever. All bull ammo gets stored elsewhere.

Point is if you really want something similar, grab some cabinets and make them your way.

This is what I bought from Lowes. House all my bulk ammo. Single boxes are in my small Stack Ons as mentioned above.....

Yeah... I saw these at Lowes and it's in the running. Plus I thought also of buying one of the Stack-On gun cabinets and converting it to shelfs for ammo. But damn that original little ammo cabinet is perfect for my space. And two side by side would have been the way to go. I had planned on even bolting them together. We'll see still in the Plan B mode.

Have a look at the Harbor Freight gun safe. It's pretty beefy. The size isn't giant, so I bought two and bolted them to the wall, side-by-side. They always have 20% coupons for a single item, so bring your wife or boyfriend to get the discount on two safes.

I'm real fond (except of the price!) of the Secure-It system:
https://www.secureitgunstorage.com/

They provide the 'hanging wall' pieces for mount anywhere --this was my safe when I first got it -- it's WAY more stuffed now!! Ammo is sorted by caliber into kitchen baskets -- so I can pull out whichever I want to fill my range suitcase... Blue boxes up top are mag holders -- I use cut foam and stack 'em in... When I pick which guns go play, I grab the matching box of mags. (Kept unloaded in the safe; I load 'em up and put 'em back in the box before I go...)

The slots on those hanging wall things ALSO are open -- so your safe doesn't fill with humidity -- well, unless you live in GA and don't 'condition' your house?

I DID have to move some of the ammo back into the StackOns I got first... Ran out of ammo-room in the big safe! Pix are when they were the only safes...
