Actually right now the best is what you can actually get-ammo is pretty scarce at this point.

When I was researching .380 pocket guns the Ruger LCP was overwhelmingly reported as reliable. And the most reported ammo being used was Hornady CD. So that's the gun and ammo I began with and never changed since its been 100% reliable. That said, it wouldn't bother me to carry standard RN ammo. Generally speaking, erring on the side of penetration with these little cartridges isn't a bad idea. I don't get too hung up on the latest and greatest magic ammo.

When I carry my Kahr CW380 or Smith and Wesson Bodyguard, I stoke em with American Gunner XTP bullets.

Anything in the XTP bullet line are good medicine in 380. I use the Hornady Custom XTP.

In the right pistol, yes I'd agree, however...

Problem with the XTP from a 380 is that it takes a 3-1/2"+ barrel to make the factory load perform as designed, but who wants to carry a larger 380 when 9's of the same size are plentiful.

As for the Hornady Custom and American Gunner, they are the same, except for nickel plated brass, and both are pretty pathetic through mouse guns with sub 3" barrels. I've tested enough of each to realize you'd be better off using flat nose lead.

I found the only way to take advantage of the excellent XTP design in 380 is to hand-load your own. I load a few with different powders that are within SAAMI spec and can reach just under 1000fps from a 2.7" barrel. That's what I keep loaded in my 911, P380 and Bodyguard. Also, to keep the forum Lawyers from having a hemorrhage I only load them in Hornady brass.
