Flat point FMJ 45 acp

To make a long story short, my kids gave me 250 pcs of 45 acp bullets for Christmas. I never really looked at the box, just thanked them. They know I reload so they knew I would use them. This morning I decided I need to reload some more 45 so I opened the box. The box contains flat point FMJ bullets. In all my years of shooting I have never shot Flat Point bullets. Is this a defensive round or a target round? I assume because of the flat point the penetration would be less than ball ammo and it might leave a bigger exit hole therefore I thought defensive round.

Can anyone enlighten me? Sarcasm is welcome because if feel I deserve it for never having any experience with this round.

All my WIN1911 (X45T) target ammo is flat. I havent had any issues with it. I have about 4K rounds of it! I mean 4 boxes, It is on the higher priced stuff I have so I thought I would just keep it around for a rainy day. And this is do to Chuck, he introduced me to Freedom, so I pretty much just purchase from them now.

Target ammo! I have not tried any flat point .45acp ammo, but I have bought flat nose FMJ ammo in .38 and .357 and .44spl and .44mag.

I reload 200 grain coated SWC from Bayou Bullets. Feeds wonderfully through my Stainless Pro Raptor 2. Easy on the wallet as well.

Those are target rounds. They are simi-wad cutters. They make a prettier hole in the target for more precise scoring without as many jagged edges. The full wad cutters are completely flat and usally shot in low velocity revolvers without the metal jacket. They are pretty poor defense rounds and not aerodynamic for long distance say out of a carbine at 100 yards. I have not had any feed problems with them and have some from Winchester and Sig in .380 and some in 40 cal. for my P229 at the moment.

For the sarcasm part let's just say if you shoot any of them we'll just say you've shot a wad.

Definitely target bullets. I used to use a similar 200 gr flat point bullet back in the days I shot bullseye matches.

I reload HSM 230 plated flat point and have really good results with them. flat points are definitely target bullets.
