35mm Slides From The 60's?

Mr. Doug, I have a lot of 35mm slides mounted in cardboard from the 60's and 70's that I need to view and sort out the trash and save the good ones to my computer or CD or some media that is easier to view.
What is the best method to get the slides onto the computer?

I found a slide "viewer" on ebay and Amazon, is there something better?

Thanks for any help.

Arland...(2Sharp2)

Hey Arland, my sister has a printer that is also a scanner that she uses to save our family photos over to her pc. She has copied them onto a disk and gives them to us as she copies more.

If I was faced with such an insurmountable task, I'd get a flat bed scanner with a frame for holding slides. You can do a dozen or more slides at a time. My 10+ year old Epson came with such a frame, so I'm sure there are even better options available today.

Just checked Amazon Prime, and they have a whole bunch of options ranging from $70 to $3300. The one I'd get is $175. It will do autocorrect for both color and scratches. You don't want to have to manually correct a lot of images. That would get tedious in no time.

I was shooting 35mm slides starting during my time in 'Nam in 1966 till around 1988, now have about 8,000 of them.

I opted for an Epsen flat bed scanner that has slide copying capability. It does 8 slides at a time, and the PC screen rendition is absolutely amazing in terms of detail, resolution and color.

I'd recommend getting the best one you can afford, as you don't want just a "slide copier", as the good scanners are like a good pistol or rifle scope.....you get what you pay for.

Rick, thanks for the heads up on the Epsen flat bed scanner, that's exactly the information I was looking for. I was just thinking about saving the slides but also have a lot of photos from my parents house of really old pics that I can scan and save.
