Need help with reassembly

Something weird is going on. I bought a new EVO TLE today, took it home, disassembled it, wipes it down and then went to reassemble it. I replaced the barrel, recoil spring, and the cam block in the slide. I then placed the slide in the frame rails and slid it to the rear. I made sure that the cam block was lined up with slide stop hole. I pulled the slide to the rear until the notch on the slide lined up but I could not seat the slide stop because there is a flat metal piece sticking out of the grip. It moves backwards when I press it backwards. But it doesnít stay back. See pic. Anybody got any ideas? Iíve got two Micro 9s so Iím familiar with Kimber, but this is odd.

You should just be able to push hard when you go to push it in

So everybody sees the same piece of metal there on your guns when reassembling?

I actually called Kimber on this when I first tried to reassemble the gun.

They said just push the slide stop in.

Look at the slide stop, it has a taper that will push that piece of metal in, although I wouldn't have believed it on my first try.

It will get easier after it breaks in a bit.

Thanks Wally. I took your advice and pushed it in using a small pick to retract the piece of metal. Worked fine. Still think itís a weird design.

I took the gun to the range and fired 100 rounds of HST 124gr. Not a single failure. The gun is also accurate. I was able to make my 2 inch spinner target rotate from 15 yards.

Very happy with this gun. It will replace my Micro 9 in rotation.

Thanks guys.
