Brass Ejection Question

I reload 9mm for for steel matches so I put a tarp out to catch brass. For some reason the Micro 9 spits brass further than any pistol I own. It is also somewhat inconsistent. It ejects the brass 10-15 feet to the right 4-5 times then 1-2 straight back..... It did this regardless of ammunition brand.

Any ideas??

Get a bigger Tarp!

Just kidding I would think the ejector needs adjustment. May be a little loose. Try the shake test and see.

Be happy it ejects. Explosions are rarely consistent in the details.

Google it for 1911. I believe you take the slide off and slide a live round up the breech face and behind the ejector. Shake the slide and see how much force it takes for the round to fall out. Should not be easy but it should come out
when shaken vigorously. Check out You Tube search under 1911 shake test. Should be something on there.

Mike 240 hopefully will come on and explain it in proper terminology and precisely.

That's the extractor.

Or check our "Gunsmith" sub forum for a thread called "How to check the extractor tension".

Knowing how to check extractor tension is nice... Knowing what to DO about it is a whole 'nother thing.

I'm no expert in this area, but I do have a couple guns that throw brass all over the place, so this subject piqued my interest.

Here's a video from a guy who talks like he knows what he's doing in regards to tuning up a 1911 extractor.

Cool What Chuck Said!!

I had that same issue with my Pro Carry II. It would also throw in a failure to feed once in a while, too. I reviewed the video that Chuck recommended and followed the instructions for checking and adjusting my extractor. Worked great!!

Although I am now too damn old and fat to go crawling around scrounging brass off the ground and I no longer reload, but my PC2 now extracts and ejects just dandy!! It's amazing how a little tweak can have such a huge effect with an irritating problem!!

Try it, you'll like it!!!
