A lot of the members here use WC flat wire recoil springs in their 4" and 5" guns. Aside from the extended spring life you don't need the "L" tool to break down your Pro model guns.

Mine worked fine with commercial (Win, Fed) ammo, but had some struggles with reman. Changed out the spring set at about 800 rounds and it runs everything now. And, yes, this is one of my regular carry pistols (all Kimbers)

I ran my .38 Super Pro Carry HD II at the range this week with my sons, and we used up a box and a half of ammo with no issues. Overall, the pistol only has a couple of hundred rounds thru it, and it has been reliable. I will follow your thread here, since yours is the only other Pro Carry HD II that I have heard about -- good luck getting it figured out.

CharlieW, good to have you on the forum, and as you say, there are very few of us with the 38 Super Pro HD. I had the Custom Shop do a few tweaks to mine before shipping, but it has been rock solid, and I love the 38 Super round. I also have a Target II in 38 Super, but spend more time with the Pro, my dominant EDC.

If you don't mind me asking, what kind of defensive ammo do you carry in your Pro Carry HD ? I have recently seen some Sig V-Crown, and some Wilson Combat, but not much else. Any recommendations ?

Winchester Silver Tip mostly, for me. Should be readily available at any LGS with any depth in their ammo selection. I do find the smaller shops will only cater to the more common rounds, but I have a few larger shops with good selection. A good resource on all things 38 Super is a site called 38super.net which seems to get updated with some regularity.

So Charlie, does your extractor have that extra bevel or is it straight with the lip thickness even all the way across?

Another pic to show what I am talking about. If I didn't know better, I'd say a cutting tool grazed the hook at some point in their process.
