Pro Carry HD II in .38 Super

For those familiar with the hook shape of the extractor, I am hoping to get a yay or nay to this so I can eliminate one potential cause for fail to extract. I have 600 rounds total to this point and I really want to trust the gun, but it hangs up 1 in 50 on average. I fired 100 non +P and only had 1 fail. Earlier on in break in, I would occasionally have to bump the slide into battery as it would fall short about 1/8 inch.

That rugged edge looks like your extractor is chipped.

That's what I wanted to think but it looks like its machined.

I couldn't locate an email address because I want to send Kimber the photo.

OK, I just wrestled the extractor out and can see that it is definitely a machined area. Whether it was intended to have this little bevel I don't know.
I'll try to get a better photo.

Extractor tension excessive?

Welcome to the forum from northern Illinois. We have a "Gunsmith" sub forum with a ton of instructional video's. I'd suggest you check out the one titled "How To Check The Extractor Tension".

I have a Pro CDP II 9mm, the extractor doesn't have the bevel like yours does. Mine is under significant pressure too, it doesn't just slide out. I've had no problems with tho pistol though so I'm guessing the tension is correct on mine. Let us know what Kimber has to say about that extractor. Good luck :-)

I recently had seen a you tube video put out by Wilson Combat where one of their gunsmiths was tuning an extractor and it seems that he did exactly what is shown in your pic, Beveled the extractor or as he put it (broke the sharp edges). Its worth a look see. Easy enough to look up on you tube.

Yep I just watched it. The older video...

Seems this is a correct rough hook design. I can smooth the angles with a file for sure. So now looking at spring tension...

Wolff said they had no springs for this pistol due to the lack of ever having one in house. I offered mine to him, and he asked instead to take IDs and ODs and OAL and send to him...
