Kimber Thumb Safety/Reshape ect.

Hello, Im new to the Kimber Forum and a long time Kimber owner.

I shoot high thumb and find that on my Kimbers the strong side part of the safety/not the lever part the base that meets the frame tends to be thick and a bit uncomfortable so on my stainless models I have done a bit of a re-shape/melt down/polish there so it is not so thick and more comfortable on the inner part of my thumb.

I understand some owners change out the safety with a different brand but Im wondering if anyone else does this or has a gunsmith do this mod. for them. Thanks in advance for a reply.

Welcome to the forum from northern Illinois GMT, I've never had a reason to reshape any of my safeties. How about stopping by our "New Member Introduction" sub forum and introducing yourself to the membership?

I'd do it in a heartbeat, especially if it's stainless. On my Rock, I slapped on a cheap aftermarket ambidextrous safety and hated it. The uncomfortable shape was the brainchild of some nameless Chinese factory worker who has never shot a 1911.

I ground, filed, and polished on it until both sides were identical and a much more pleasing shape, both ergonomically and aesthetically. They were carbon steel, so I blasted them and then put them in the parkerizing bath. Now they look and function great.

There's no reason to live with something that can be improved both easily and cheaply.
