Exactly why doesn't it fit? Is it to large in diameter to fit or to lose? Long or short. I do know when I bought the new flat wire kit with a plug for my CDP Pro I had to get the guide rod to go with it because the inside diameter of the flat wire spring would not fit the standard guide rod!

Welcome to the forum from northern Illinois 40mpg. From the looks of your picture and what you said I'd say you bought the plug for a compact or pro (4") size gun, part number SKU: 1000302A. What you need is a Stainless recoil spring plug for a 5-inch 1911 with a full length guide rod, part number SKU: 1000301A.

You can contact Kimbers customer service to verify this.
