Ultra Carry barrel shot out

Hello, new member here! I've been reading you guys for a little while, so thought I would sign up to post. I've done several searches of the forum for this subject, but couldn't find anything. So, I'm sorry if this has already been hashed over.

I've had my Ultra Carry for about 12 years now, and have put enough rounds through it that the rifling in the barrel is now smooth. How do I go about getting/having a new barrel sent/installed in my pistol?

This pistol has been my daily carry for over a decade now, and I'd really like to get it back to where it was.

Welcome to the forum from northern Illinois Gravity. I'm sure any qualified gunsmith could replace the barrel but I'd start by giving Kimbers customer service a call and seeing what they say.

I would love to know the round count. Usually many other parts will fail before the rifling is shot out on a pistol. It takes very little rifling height on a low pressure slow velocity round like the 45 ACP.

My decision to rebarrel would be based on two factors....the accuracy no longer meets my standards (proven by Ransom Rest testing or exceptional shooter) AND OR, the headspace is no longer safe.

I have nothing to base it on but I've heard that a 1911 .45 barrel is good for about 50,000 rounds. I have one 1911 that has almost 27,000 and it's still more accurate then I'm capable of shooting.

Welcome to the site from Tennessee.

Just like Mike240, I was wondering if accuracy has gone out the window? Is that your reasoning for replacement?
Round count number would be interesting to know.

He did say the rifling is smooth. That is a lot of wear imho.
Throw a new barrel in if its that far gone.

Welcome to the forum. You must have put a helluva lot of rounds through thet to wear out the rifling. Most rifling will outlast the life of the shooter!

Wow! You must shoot a LOT.

If your barrel is indeed worn out, then there must be other parts of the gun that are in need of attention. Give Kimber a call. They'll ask you to send the gun in for evaluation.

From there, anything can happen. They might just fix it up and send it back, they might offer you a discount on a replacement gun, or they might give you a quote to restore the gun to new. The first step is making the call.
