The AI version has less case body taper and a sharper (usually 40 degree) shoulder, giving the cartdrige case more powder capacity, thus improving it's performance.
The Term "Ackley Improved" means that the cartridge was documented as being originally altered to the improved version by Parker Oliver Ackley.

Well i called customer service and it is going back. Although the conversation with customer service did not sound too promising they agreed to take a look at it and repair it if they felt is was not ok. Well i own several older 8400's and one in a 270 win that i feel was the best sporting rifle ever made in the USA. I do understand the Hunter is a base line rifle but it should not have a bad chamber from the factory. So i guess we send it back and see what happens.
