Ed's Red ???

...curious if anyone has brewed up a batch of this stuff? It's supposed to work great as a bore cleaner? One part acetone, one part kerosene, one part dexronIII ATF and one part mineral spirits. I don't know if it works but I can guarantee if I spilled any in the house Mrs cousinmark would blow a gasket :-) and maybe kill me...

I haven't personally used Ed's Red but there's enough feedback on the Net to be confident that what folks say is reasonably accurate.

But here's the thing... a 32oz spray bottle of Hoppes M-Pro 7 and 32oz Hoppe's No. 9 is only $15 at Amazon. That's a TON of gun cleaning. So why bother mixing up a potion?

As far as bore cleaning... if folks would just leave Hoppe's No. 9 to sit for a few minutes in the bore to let it do its job they wouldn't be looking for magic bore cleaner that doesn't exist anyway.

I'll be sticking with Hoppe's #9 in the garage and the odor free, non toxic Battle Born stuff at my indoor station. I was just curious if anyone had given the "Ed's" a go. I certainly wouldn't advocate breathing the fumes or getting it on your skin. It's got to be toxic!

I worked with a guy years ago, who made a solution, and it destroyed his Glock 21 barrel. Glock replaced the barrel, but told him not to use that solution, again.

If it eats up a barrel just think of what it might do to a wood stock :-(

I believe you can buy already made ''Ed's Red'' from Brownells or MidwayUSA. Saves you the trouble of playing household chemist.

Why? Just WHY? There are about 9 gazillion cleaners on the market already. I find it highly unlikely something you brew up in a backyard shed is superior, and, unless you really know what you are doing, you can easily hurt yourself or someone else.

Just like the video of the guy, at the gas station, filling maybe a dozen 5 gallon pails, without lids, with gasoline, and putting them into the back of his Tahoe.
