Kimber Ambi Safety replace

I have a Gold Combat Stainless II and I am thinking about getting a set of Kimber Crimson Trace lasergrips for it. According to the Kimber website you will need to change to a modified Ambi safety. Is changing out the safety a hard job or something you should take it to a gunsmith to do. Thanks

Changing the safety is not a difficult thing to do once you've seen it done a couple of times. I've been looking for a good video showing the Kimber ambidextrous safety but I have yet to find one. There is one on youtube but I don't feel the guy adequately explains all the steps. Unless you're the adventures type I'd suggest you get a gunsmith to do it for you.

Here's the video:

Or, you can try it and if it doesn't work out, put all the parts in a ziploc bag and take them to your gunsmith for reassembly.

Depending on which Crimson Trace style grip you buy the ambi safety may not need to be changed or modified. Will try to find a pick of what the laser part looks like.
My CDP Ultra had the extended ambi safety and it worked fine with the short laser but for $20 I changed it to a short ambi safety.
This Black CT laser the laser part is almost twice as long as the one on the CDP.
I hope I explained that well enough to understand.

Having shopped for some Crimson Trace grips lately myself I have noticed they offer some redesigned grips to acomodate the ambi safety with out having to change to a bobbed safety.

That's cool. That is a good pic. But that is a new grip material but the short style of the actual laser has been around for a pretty long time.

Changing the safety is a snap. If you've never done it before, figure 15 or 20 minutes. It's much easier than that video, and all those parts don't need to be removed. There is another video around- I'll find it for you.

I've put ambis on al my Kimbers. It's very easy. The only part tht you need to remove is the mainspring housing pin. (and the safety selector, of course)

I've never seen a Kimber safety that did not drop right in.

Yeah. I just grabbed the first picture I could find off their web site. Just wish I had seen these before I upgraded to the green laser grips on my CDP II
