Ammo question Pro Carry II

Just purchased a Pro Carry II. Nothing stated about whether using +P ammo is all right or not, so was curious if, especially with the aluminum frame, if I need to stay away from +P ammo of if it is designed to shoot it?

Additionally, I know on a regular full size 1911, it is designed to shoot ball ammo. I have shot hollow point defense rounds through my full size with no problems, using McCormick and Wilson mags (stock mags shot OK, but did have some problems, but not so with the better mags). Was wondering if the PC II is the same, basically designed to shoot ball ammo and it MAY feed other than round nose ammo?

Thanks for any info folks. Going to do the break-in soon, so will try the "Defense" ammo after it loosens up a bit just to see how it will feed.

I don't know if the +P will cause damage or not. As you intimated, the break-in period has specific ammunition recommendations. I have some Critical Duty defense loads that I believe are +P and I am reluctant to shoot them in my custom carry. I may try them in a year or so.

YMMV

From Kimbers FAQ

+P ammo manufactured to SAAMI specs is fine to use as a defensive round or for occasional range use only. Our pistols are rated to handle +P ammo. However, we do not recommend a steady diet of them, as they are rough on the pistol and will accelerate the wear on the gun and may shorten the life of the recoil spring.

Thanks, just found that myself. I'll just play it safe and will stay away from +P. Guess I'll just have to try the non ball ammo and see how well it feeds.

I don't know how far along you are with breaking in your Pro Carry II but I'd wait until you've finished before trying before trying other types of ammo. You could have better results once the break in is completed.

Haven't even fired it yet. Range open on Thurs. I'm only shooting standard ball ammo for break-in, then I'll try the hollow point defense rounds to see how well it feeds. None are +P though.

From what I've been reading, some 185 grain JHP or hyda-shock are supposed to be really good and allow for better placement of the second shot. I'll need to try that myself before I know for sure.

Wink Why?

While your Kimber will handle the +P ammo, why beat up your pistol when standard velocity .45 ACP ammo is a legendary one shot manstopper? My carry load for my Kimber Custom Stainless II is a standard velocity 230 grain Winchester Supreme PDX2 personal defense hollow point. I have used this load on medium game with excellent results.

I Don't Need No Stinking +P Ammo!!!!!

Just in case +P was the only stuff they had available at the store, or if the Home Defense ammo was only in +P. Normally I shoot regular ball ammo.
