Kimber Grips

I have the Kimber Eclipse Pro II. Are the grips on this 4" kimber the same standard 1911 grips?

Yes sir. The Pro models have full size grips. Full size is also called "government" on some sites. Pros are sometimes called "commander" size I believe....but "Captain" and "compact" are used for shorter grips.

By Colt terms, the "officer" rather then "captain" and compact models wear smaller grips. The "government" and "commander" sizes wear the same size.

Hahaha. Officer....you're right. I knew "captain" sounded a little wrong. Geeze. I'm really starting to miss all those brain cells I killed when I was young, thinking how many I had and that I wouldn't miss them.

Pro Carry II

My Pro Carry II has a sandpaper like material on the front of the grip. It is nice and rough and helps me to hold on the pistol very well. When I look at the various models on Gun Broker I have only seen one with that black rough finished material. Since the gun was used I don't know if it was put on by the factory or by the previous owner? Any ideas on if Kimber offered that on some of those models? It fits under the front of the grips also.

It's skate board tape or something similar. It was put on by the previous owner. It's a common practice for adding a better grip surface to your gun.

The Pro Carry II doesn't have front strap checkering....or as I would say, it doesn't NEED front strap checkering! With the duck tail of the grip safety on a 1911 resting firmly in the crook of your hand and a proper grip, the gun isn't going anywhere. Just my opinion, but I've put rubber grips, slick wood, sticky wood, G10 and aggressive patterned grips on my gun and there has been no difference in my ability to grip it. In fact, my best target was when I had grips as smooth as a babies ass on my PCII.
