Kimber QA/QC - does it suck on every model?

I've never owned or even shot a Kimber 1911, but I do own a Solo. I read TONS of complaints about the Solo, it seems they either run great or are total pieces of junk. I was just wondering - are the 1911's any better? Are they VERY hit or miss (no pun intended) quality and functionality wise?

Are they the 80's Camaro of pistols, nice looking but junk otherwise?

I'm not being a jerk here, I am honestly seeking opinions as I plan to buy another high end 1911 this year and was thinking about a Kimber.

Call it what you will, luck, good quality, I don't know. I currently own the 1911 Kimber's listed in my signature. Some new some used when purchased, some .45acp some 9mm.

I have kept them cleaned and lubed with Breakfree CLP and I have never had any kind of malfunction. The TLE PRO TFS that I just bought has not been to the range yet but the others have had a minimum of 200 rounds or more.

Should not compare Solo to any Kimber 1911 they are totally different animals.

Soloist,
I have a Crimson Custom II and a Super Carry Ultra Plus. Both had problems with "Returning to Battery" when they were new. I shot through the problems with the Custom Crimson II and had a local pistol smith work on the SCUP. Both along with my Solo run great now. I truly believe that Kimbers goal is to make a pistol that the tolerances are so close that they have problems sometimes.
This would not deter me from purchasing another Kimber.
I understand that sometimes, you have to give them a good "slickum" up to get them to run at a confidence level you want.
Don't listen to all the naysayers. I have several other brands and I have had issues with some of them. Buy what you want , find a competent gun smith , and shoot the hell out of them. When happy put it in your EDC rotations.

Sport/Marshall....I don't post personal gun pictures on KT or any site, for any reason. Never have/never will. Taking IP risk is for those that choose to do so, I don't.

If you have a problem with that, choose a orifice.
End of subject.

I have 3 PCII and a couple of UCII along with my new Micro 9 and I have never had an issue with any of them right out of the case that they came from the factory in..

Now I will not open up the can of worms about the Solo that we had, but let's just say Yonkers made it work the way it was supposed to from the beginning..

I have Custom (5"), Pro (4") and Ultra (3") Kimbers, only one's been back to the factory and that was for a minor problem I could have fixed myself.

Kimber 1911 are fairly priced for the quality and excellent service should you ever need it. There have been many threads on the subject, in general, as you climb the ladder of higher quality and hand fit precision parts the price gets very steep, easily 2-4x the price of a Kimber. Kimber is not high end. For the $, Kimber will deliver an honestly good 1911 that will be accurate and reliable if properly maintained. If something goes sideways you will get courteous and helpful service and likely a repaired weapon in 4-5 weeks.

For the most part, the working parts and fit of Kimber' 1911s are all the same. What you pay for as you go up the price ladder is the exterior features such as finish, material checkering, sights....

They can be a bit ammo picky and nearly all prone to a few relatively minor issues. Short chamber leades, improperly fit or tensioned extractors and barrel bump to varying degrees.

Many users have no issues depending on the ammo they choose or not getting to real high round counts.

My opinions are that many of the reported issues come from people who little understanding on either how to run the gun or how the guns operates. Myths rule the day with 1911s and may believe laying into the frame's feed ramp with a dremel tool is the answer....it usually adds to the problem.

I have a Pro Carry
Stainless Target 10mm
Custom II
NRA Freedom Custom II
.308 LPT
.338 Fed 84M

for some reason, I think there might be another one, but I can't remember.

Never had a single problem with any of them. Well, the LPT was too cool, but other than that, no.

You know you're hooked when you can't remember all the Kimbers you own.
