Range Report on G-10 grips

Hey All, Marianne and I went to my local indoor range range yesterday as the little lady had not been in a while and I wanted to give the new G-10 grips and the Pearce finger groove inserts that I had installed on a Colt Defender a workout. I can tell you that although the shooting was relatively good for an old man, The G-10's are, for me, definitely not for the range. I guess I put through 100 rnds of 230 gr, fmj FM and 100 rnds of 230 grn federal premium. From the second magazine on between my thumb and forefinger were very uncomfortable. Although the Pearce groove inserts did give me better control. I probably should have known the wear it put on my hand. I shot from 10 yrds. Just a few pics to help out. Marianne did quite well with her Ultra Raptor II.

Nice report Pops, the gun looks good with those grips and finger groove insert. Try hitting the sharp spots on the G10's with some sandpaper.

Great shooting pops :-)
From the looks of the grip in the picture they're fairly aggressive? On the VZ site they rate them for potential uses. Some are better suited for wet conditions or a gloved hand. Yours look like they may be designed for more extreme conditions. They do look good though :-)

I'be heard the some folks apply sandpaper to them. Would it ruin the appearance at all? seems like it would. The other answer is to wear gloves, but it jut doesn't seem practical

Very nice groupings. Yeah, that looks like it hurts...but it wasn't enough pain for you to stop shooting though!

I agree with others, grips look real good on the pistol. Kind of surprised to hear the G10's hurt your hand, you have several options.
I have a set of smooth grips on one of my Ultra's that are to slippery when it is hot and my hand is sweaty but I leave them on there cause they look so dang good on it. I just keep a towel close while shooting.

At first it seems a glove of some type would be the logical choice but I think during practice you want to simulate real life and I know I don't wear a glove every day so I don't know if you would want to get used to shooting with a glove.

Why not try them without the rubber finger grips, and see how it works out. If you still have abrasion in the areas you show, I agree that sandpaper will help take down and smooth out those high spots.

I've tried it without the finger grooves before i got the rubber finger groove insert and found i have gotten the same result.
Do you know if sandpaper will ruin the grip aesthetically. Gotta look good too ya know.

Shouldn't be a problem if you focus only on the edges where you have abrasion, which seems to be around the thumb relief. So take a little off at a time with a mid-weight sandpaper (220-ish) and finish with 600 when you're done.

Look, the worst that can happen is that you screw up a pair of replaceable grips. No big deal.
