Been reading some 2011 1911threads on magazines.

Based on what I've read (remember im pretty new to this) Kimber stock magazines don't have near the reputation as the KimPro TacMags. I have read that Kimber's reputation would be so much better if they would use better stock magazines. The issue I had the other day was with my stock mag. It has roughly 600 rnds thru it. Do I need to change mag springs or just shoot it and make a trophy?

I have 8 Kimber stock mags that I have put over 6000 rounds through and haven't done anything to them except take them apart and clean them.
Manufacturing companies make a product and then there is another company that makes the "new and improved" product hoping you will buy theirs..
To each their own but if it ain't broke...don't fix it...IMO

So I had to go count my Kimber magazines, I've got 26 of them. 14- Kim Pro Tac Mags, 4- .22 and 8 what you called factory mags. Some of them have thousands of rounds through them some are relatively new but they all work. Any problems I've had I have always been able to fix so I don't know what to tell you.

Well, I don't have near as many magazines as Chuck. I think I have something like 4 or 5 "factory mags" and about six KimPro Tac mags. Not had a problem with any of them.
Next time I get to go shoot I am going to try my Colt magazines in the Kimbers and see how they function.

EDIT: Oh yeah, some day I hope to have a Trophy like Lineman!

Keith, you need to put the gun down and take a step back, pick up a beer, relax, I can feel your tension through the computer. Take some slow deep breaths, they're not all bad magazines, some are just misguided, led astray by a bad follower or crooked spring. You can't look at them all as potential trophies on a wall.

I've got about half a dozen "factory" mags with a lot of rounds through them and the all function fine.

I've never had any probs with any of my mags. They all work. I've got Colt, Pro, Tac, Chip, Wilson, etc.... The only thing I ever did to a mag was to my old vintage Colt mags circa 1978... I chose to upgrade all the springs on my Colt MKIV Series 70 and did them as well. Did they need them? Nah, but did anyway. I could rate them, but it's not worth it. I'm just glad to have them when I need them. They all stay loaded in the safe as well as in any 1911 weapon I have in the safe or staged... So without further data from you, don't know what else to say.

What or where have you been reading? If you haven't done so yet go to 1911forum.com then go to the Kimber section. They've got people there that will love to fill you with all kinds of crap about anything Kimber. They live for that kind of stuff over there especially MIM parts. I deleted the bookmark I had for that place over a year ago and never looked back.
