Question Price increase

Who would balk at a modest price increase if kimber began test firing/tuning all their guns before leaving the plant?
I wouldn't mind. But they make a lot of 1911's, so.....

I feel they charge enough for that to be done now.

Yeah, I think they charge enough. I would be interested in knowing the quantity of each model produced each year. The premium price for models stamped "Custom Shop" should already be tuned and tested for 100% reliability and accuracy. So, I guess, in a way you already have your wish. Don't buy a $900 model, buy a $1,500 model that has "Custom Shop" on the side.

Since I'm not there to verify, I have to say should. However, my $1,000 Custom Crimson Carry II has had a few feed problems, but only a few and it has 1,500 round down range. My Super Carry Ultra HD (Custom Shop) has 500 rounds down range and NO problems at all. Much smoother, much easier shooting gun, IMO. Is it worth the extra $350 I paid for it? It is to me.

YMMV

How many rounds would they need to run through a gun to satisfy you. I've never heard of a new gun that wouldn't shoot, usually the problems pop up somewhere between the 1st and the 100th round. Kimber is the largest mfg. of 1911's in the world they have somewhere around 100 different models. If they made 1000 of each model that's 100,000 guns. That's a total of 10,000,000 rounds, who's going to fire all those rounds, how long is it going to take and who's going to clean all those guns? I can see nothing but longer delay's in shipping while they wait for the guns to be tested and cleaned and mfg. costs going up significantly due to the ammo and extra staff needed to do the shooting and cleaning.

No issues with the TLE at all @ 2200 rounds. The Eclipse Ultra started misbehaving at a very high round count so that wouldn't have been caught during early tuning.
As for Custom Shop, if they are indeed test firing/tuning I wasn't aware of it. If they are, yes, it's worth the increase $ IMO.

As far as I understand, the Custom Shop guns fitted, as you would expect a 'custom' firearm to be, but I only assume they actually test fire it before leaving the shop. I can tell you they fired three magazines of various ammo types to verify function while it was in the shop to have the front sight replace. Yep, they test fired it for a front sight change. They also adjusted the safety so it is now easier to get the slide stop in without an idiot scratch. I wish they had an email account for general questions. Then we'd know.
