New Kimber Slide Stop Won't Budge

Hi, I just got a Kimber Raptor II full size. I tried to disassemble the gun for a wipe down but the slide stop absolutely won't budge when I try to push it out of the slide. I've positioned the half-moon slide notch above the slide stop as I would with any 1911 but unlike any other 1911 I've disassembled the slide stop won't move at all. I've used a small plastic tool to push, pull and the thing won't come out the other side. Help?

Welcome to the forum. Sorry that you are having a problem. I don't think I can help out but I'm sure someone will come along with some advice, if not tonight by the morning. I always use a chop stick to push my slide lock out....they come in handy. Good luck with your Raptor it's a beautiful pistol.

I just purchased a full sized Raptor II in 9mm this past weekend. It also has a slide stop that is more difficult to remove than any other 1911 I have. It still cycles by hand as expected and the follower trips the slide stop when the mag is empty. I haven't really looked into it much past that. I am waiting to get some rounds down the range this weekend before I really dig into it.

I forgot to add, To get it apart I had to get the slide to the half moon position exactly in line and hold steady with one hand and used the plastic field strip tool to push the slide stop from the back with my other hand. I have taken it down 3 times now that way and it has not gotten any easier..yet

I just took some gun oil and lubed the surrounding area. I will let it sit for the night and see if the oil will lubricate the slide stop pin.

Thanks for the welcome!!

Yeah maybe I need to pump some rounds through the gun to get all the parts moving. The gun is very tight, no nudge or loose fittings at all. I've been reading about Kimbers having problems but hopefully that's not my case here. I also noticed that my barrel is not very well polished. I will take a photo tomorrow and show here to see if any of you have this problem.

This is my 9th Kimber and the first one I have had an "issue" with. I wouldn't get to upset yet. As for the barrel not being polished, mine is not either. On my .45 Raptor after I hit the 500 round mark I ended up polishing it myself. Adds that extra flash to an already beautiful pistol. Keep us updated. I will too

I've had new guns where the slide stop is really tight coming out. Like Starnovi said, get a chopstick. It won't scratch. Line up the slide notch and hold it with your right hand. Put the rectangular end of the chopstick over the slide stop pin. This allows you push with a lot of force onto the pin. Squeeze it like a mofo. Make sure the slide is still lined up. Wiggle the slide stop a little if you have to. It WILL come out. The only thing that holds it in place is the detent plunger and the slide.

I wanna be a smart and say you need a bigger hammer, but I won't. But have you seen those small plastic head hammers? They won't scratch or dent and mabey a tap or two with one will do it.
