Range Report - Some Issues

So for lunch today I had 325 rounds of .45 (FM reloads, new Winshester, misc others) and 100 rounds 0f .22 (in my new S&W M&P 15-22).

Out of the 325 .45 rounds, I had 12 fail to feed. All failures were on the last round (eighth) of a magazine. It occurred using both the factory Kimber mag that came with the gun and 2 Kimber Tac Mags. These rounds finished out the 500 round break in period.

Do you think this is a magazine issue or an issue with my Custom Crimson Carry? Either way, I am going to contact Kimber.

It could be neither, I used to shoot Winchester ammo all the time until they changed powder. I won't shoot it any more, it's some of the dirtiest stuff I've found. I'd try cleaning and lubing the gun real good then go back and see what happens.

Forgot to add shoot anything but Winchester ammo, use FM if you have any left.

I'm with Chuck on cleaning and oiling up real well. Then I'd rack the slide 100-200 times as well. Lube it up again and back to the range. New parts need to get acquainted with each other.

225 of the rounds were FM and most of the failures occurred with those rounds.

WOW - that's a pretty big lunch!

As far as the issues with the pistol - I would call Kimber & see what they say.

I had similar issues with my Tactical Ultra initially, until I started shooting it first during range visits to avoid fatigue since it's a snappy little pistol. I never shoot more than 100 rounds through that one during a session as my wrist just can't hold up. YMMV

Kimber is sending me a new slide stop to see if that fixes it.

When I was diagnosing a similar problem, this helped. After each shot, eject the magazine. On FTE/FTFs the next cartridge was partially out infront of the mag. Cleaning the mag helped, but also shooting the gun loosened it up. It's been perfect since then. Lastly, this was with a recently Cerakoted Sig, so your mileage may vary.

I really would only need to do it after the 7th shot since the failure was always on the 8th round. I should have tried loading the magazine with just 7 rounds to see if it still did it on the last one. I didn't think about it at the time, was just trying to crank out a bunch of rounds over lunch.

I agree with this assessment of how dirty Winchester ammo is. As for reloads, I've had excellent results (i.e., no FTF/FTE issues) with LAX Ammo reloads. YMMV
