Range Report - Stainless Pro Raptor II

After picking her up, I gave her a good cleaning and lube with Froglube, and took the new addition to the range yesterday for 150 rounds to begin the break-in. Fired 100 rounds of Federal white box ($20.99/box of 50) and 50 rounds of CCI Blazer Brass ($21.99/box of 50) both in 230 grain round nose. Both ammo makes fired fine with no FTF or FTE. Photos will follow from this range session.

Day two, another 150 after cleaning and light lube with Froglube. Fired 100 rounds of Federal American Eagle Value Pack ($42.00/box of 100) and 50 rounds of Federal white box. First, I fired the American Eagle ammo where I had 2 FTE rounds, with one casing jamming in the slide. I followed with the Federal white box and had no issues with this ammo.

I find the trigger to be stiff. I suppose this could be due to the newness of the weapon, but my Custom TLE II did not have this stiff a trigger on initial firing. I will drop by my gunsmith in the morning to check the trigger pull setting. Supposed to be 4.0 - 5.0, but feels on the upper limit or higher and as the trigger has a sharp edge feel, this became uncomfortable after 100 rounds. I believe we can dull this sharp edge feel a little. We will see.

Tomorrow, I plan to see what other 45 acp ammo is on the shelf and will look at some personal defense rounds to test for functionality. After break-in, I will start using my handloads and 185-grain to reduce costs and wear-n-tear on this old body.

I am very happy with the purchase and look forward to more rounds down range during the break-in and refining the trigger. I will be visiting my long time friend and gunsmith for a trigger and ramp dress after few hundred more rounds.

I went with the stainless model for ease of care over a blued weapon, and to eliminate holster wear on the bluing. I have had other weapons show wear marks from the holster over long periods of time and I did not want this to happen to my Kimber. (Okay, I may be a little bit anal over this). But I am thinking (okay - hoping) a Kimber is like a Rolex - it appreciates over time with very good care! That's my story to the wife, and I am sticking to it!

Some people ask why I use Froglube. It is what I use on my ARs, hunting rifles, handguns and knives. I like the long term protection it gives my metal products and ease of cleaning after a day at the range with several toys.

First Targets

The pics are from my first outing. First rounds down range, followed by more at 5, 7 & 10 yards.

The first shots target shows I had to get used to the sights. I think I should have applied more light to the tritium night sights as I had some difficulty picking up the sights in a dimly lit range. Of course, I know it is absolutely not the age of my eyes - it must be the weapon!!!

I don't see much need to reach out more than 10 yards with a personal defense weapon, but once in a while the young lads at the range like to shoot out to 25 yards for bragging rights.

Great shooting but with a little more practice you may eliminate those outside the ring...

And after a good day at the range, there is only one more thing to do... well, okay, the toys are already cleaned...

Did you guys notice that products are getting smaller? I mean a Big Mac is downsizing, and a large pizza is no longer THAT big, you have to buy an X-Large now, an AR rifle is now a pistol...

And look at this... a liter of gin now only makes FOUR drinks - what is the world coming too??!!??

Cool Lookin' Good!!

Love the Stainless Raptor!!! That is one of the finest looking pistols made. It holds first place on my wish list!!!

Great range report, too. As for the shooting.........not bad for an old guy with failing eye sight!!! BTW, I resemble that remark. You could add FAT to that when referring to me, though!!! Just smile when you say it!!!

Thanks for the pictures and the range report. Keep on shootin' and be safe!!

Nice shooting. SPRII is a beautiful gun. Would love to replace my CCCII with a SPRII.
