Cases flying back at me Kimber pro carry II 9mm

I mic'd the ejection port at .384 which is much lower that my other 9mm 1911 which mic'd out a .404. Before I ship it back to kimber what else should I check for that could cause this issue. Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Thanks

Does it eject it towards your face on every round? Are you shooting factory ammo?

Occasionally and I do my own hand loads. Have several other 9mm guns that don't have the same issue using my hand loads

Extracter needs adjusted could be a little too tight. Should eject in the 3:00 to 5:00 area. I have the Pro Carry Two tone in 9mm. It will lay the cases down in one pile in the grass. Sounds like just a little adjusting if it's running good otherwise.

bimmerland,
I would say Albert may be on the right track with adjusting the extractor. Just the other day I watched a very good video from Wilson Combat on exactly how to adjust the extractor. Also changing your recipe a little could help also. If you load + P loads it can make brass fly long and far. I know the first batch of .45 SWC I ever reloaded went 10 to 12 feet behind me landing in the bed of my truck. That was out of my P220R not my 1911's

Thanks. You're right in line with Kimber customer service. Even though I've never adjusted the extractor it could have some crud in the hole causing it to grab the cases a little more aggressively therefore causing them to fly further. Do you have a url for the video that shows how to correctly adjust the angle and tension of the extractor. Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Thanks

The name of the video is how to tune and adjust the extractor in a 1911- Wilson combat. I still have not learned how to post a u-tube video on a forum. If you do a search for Wilson Combat videos it should pop up no problem.

Ok. Adjusted extractor but no improvement. Did something crazy but got the results I wanted now just have to figure what's the issue.

I took a 9# 9mm recoil spring and cut it to the length of the stock 14# kimber pro carry spring. Ran one magazine through the gun and to my surprise the cases were ejecting with enough force to have them avoid me and land several feet away. I know I can pack it up and send it to kimber but I'd like to see if I can solve it myself.

So to summarize. Lighter recoil spring and everything is fine. Can't keep it in permanently as it will probably beat the gun up.

I'm not much on physics but I'm confused as to why my 5" 9mm Aegis uses a 12# spring while the 4" pro carry uses a 14# spring. Can anyone explain this. I don't have an answer.

So what am I missing. As always any suggestions greatly appreciated. Thanks

The 9mm round can only generate so much force. The lighter 4" slide needs a heavier spring to control the speed and force the slide operates with. The heavier 5" slide requires a lighter spring to do the same job. I hope that makes sense.
