Lightbulb Super Carry Pro Project Gun

Well the voices are speaking again!!!

As some of you may know I have 3 Kimber's.

20141026_185924.jpg

By far my favorite is my Super Carry Pro HD.

20141012_175641.jpg

But I still have a fascination for the color scheme of the Kimber CDP Pro.

2950379_01_kimber_pro_cdp_ii_45acp_640.jpg

In fact I almost purchased one last Sunday.

But in reading about problems associated with the CDP and the fact it is chambered for 7 round magazines(plus I already have 23 Kimpro Tac Mags in 8 round) I decided against the purchase.

But the voices keep calling!!!!!!

As we all know the Kimpro II finish is not all that swift.

And I love the CDP color scheme.

Solution.
Purchase another Super Carry Pro HD and have it Cerakoted.

Spoke with Brian at Calamity Arms in Yukon, Ok. Just down the road from where I live.Home - Calamity Arms

Great fellow.

We discussed all aspects of the project.

Plus the fact that price includes disassembly, reassembly, and full function guarantee.

He has done several Kimber's and is intimately aware of their quality and tight tolerances.

At this point plan on doing Gloss Black Item: H-109Q for the dark surfaces.

And Bright Nickel Item: H-157Q for the bright surfaces.

Going to check out the actual colors.

Now just need some outstanding Grips for it.

Love the Feel of the Stock, but would like to have Wood for something this special.

Darrell, the Super Carry Pro is my favorite Kimber and I also intend to make some changes to mine after the holidays when I can drive over to Bob Cundiff's shop and talk guns. Like you I wanted a set of outstanding grips for it and so I had a pair of Elephant ivory grips made. Next will be some minor hardware changes then refinishing it to make the grips stand out.

Here's a picture of the grips on my gun, as you can see the color of the frame does nothing for the grips. I tried the grips on the gun one time, took the picture then locked them up in my safe.

Wink Wow!!!

Sounds like quite a project!!! You have a lot of work ahead of you!! Please send photos when you complete it. I'd love to see the end results.

Enjoy the shop time. Should be fun!! Be sure to include a range report with the photos!! I bet it's gonna be a shooter, too!!

Carefully set the Raptor frame on the Super Carry HD slide!20141128_182549.jpg

Just an idea for the project gun.

Meeting with the applicator tomorrow!

And a few grips spotted!

The HD models are stainless. You could also have the slide bead blasted and get the same look without having to have it coated with anything.

I went ahead and took my original Super Carry Pro HD to the Applicator. I figured I know it's now at 99.9% reliability.

The New Super Carry Pro HD is yet to arrive and it has only been shot at the factory. So if it should happen to need to return home figured it was better to be 100 Kimber.

Just curious why not just strip and bead blast the slide as the SC Pro is stainless steel?
