Help, new to Kimbers

Sept. I'm black bear hunting (with muzzloader) in Maine and wanted a side arm just in case. I just bought a SS pro carry 2 in 45acp. I live in the USSR of NJ so hollow points are out. Can anyone suggest a round that will piss of a black bear the most before it stomps on me. Also, anything to look for or upgrade on the pro carry 2 out of the box?
Thank you.

Welcome to the forum from northern Illinois Garvfam and congratulations on the new Kimber. First things first, break the gun down and give it a good cleaning and lube before making that first range visit. Then break it in with a good 500 rounds of .230 gr. FMJ ammo. Once you're convinced it's running trouble free then you can try different self defense loads. For stopping a PO's bear I'd suggest giving Underwoods .45 +P 255 gr. hard cast flat nose loads a try. Tell my you're kidding when you say you can't own hollow points.

How about stopping by our "New Member Introduction" sub forum and introducing yourself to the membership?

Welcome to the site from Tennessee. Chuck gave great advice, clean, lube, shoot the Kimber.

You can't even use HP ammo for hunting?

Yes, unfortunately hollow points are only allowed to and from the range. If you stop for gas 5yrs. You must be able to prove your travel is only to the range. They cannot be is your possession while committing any crime.
Including traffic violations 5yrs

How do you prove you going to a range? Is a traffic violation cause to search your trunk and find the evil hollow points? FYI, if you live in the USA, driving a bit over the speed limit is not cause to search your vehicle.

Both are true, however nobody wants to get locked up first and argue in court later. So no one I know of buys hallow points. That is just one of the many completely insane gun laws in NJ.... Can't wait to retire and move !

I looked up those Underwood's, seem like they're exactly what I need. So It'll be OK running the +P ammo through the lighter frame Pro Carry II ?

+P ammo manufactured to SAAMI specs is fine to use as a defensive round or for occasional range use only. Our pistols are rated to handle +P ammo. However, we do not recommend a steady diet of them, as they are rough on the pistol and will accelerate the wear on the gun and may shorten the life of the recoil spring.

Your recoil spring should be changed at the 800 round mark. I'd suggest you look into a Wilson Combat Flat Wire Spring Kit. The spring in this kit has a 40,000 round life and the kit will allow you to break down the gun without using that "L" or any other tool.
