Best performing magazines for 1911

When I picked up my Super Carry Custom HD, knowing that it came with only one magazine, I also picked up a couple of extra Kim Pro Tac Mags. Later in the day, I picked up a Wilson Combat mag. My experience at the range has convinced me that the Wilson Combat mags are superior. Has anyone seen this comparison produce the opposite result? Are there higher quality Kimber mags I know nothing about? Is there a manufacturer that has better mags than either Kimber or Wilson Combat?

From my searching this and the 1911 forums, I have found there are a lot of different opinions on this subject. Every time I read a post that recommends a particular brand the opposite view is expressed and another brand is recommended. Wilson enjoys a good reputation among the seasoned shooters it appears. However there are those who also prefer other brands. Look into several forums and you will see what I mean. My only direct experience is with the Kimber stock and the Kimpro Tacmag. Good Luck

My original Kimber mag is still in the case stored in the closet. All I use are WC (Wilson Combat) 47D's in my Pro CDPII. Just personal preference. YMMV

The WC mag I picked up is a 47D. I have since ordered three more online. I will continue to use the Kimber mags I have, but will likely stick with WC for replacements as needed.

I too have just purchased the Wilson combat mags. I have researched around and found that enough people have responded with the mags to be superior over the stock mags provided. When I receive them and put them to use I will be sure to put my opinion out there for others..

I've seen this discussion on every 1911 forum I've ever been on. I have 5 Kim Pro Tac Mags and 4 Wilsons, all 9 work the way they were designed to work. None of them have ever given me any problems so you tell me other then being able to find the Kimber mags for $10.00 less then the Wilsons how does one decide which brand is the best if they work the same.

This reminds me of the old Ford vs Chevy argument that has been going on forever.

Wilson Combat Mags

I have compared the Kimber mags to some "other" aftermarket mags and then tried the Wilson....My opinion is the Wilson's are a higher quality. The follower and spring are very smooth and consistant.

I have the Custom HD. I also acquired 5 new Wilson Combat 500B's. It's been my experience that the Kim Pro's are shit which I sold on Gunbroker after my first trip to the range. The Wilson's are the best in my book, Even better than the Chip McCormick's.

I noticed in another thread you say you have the Super Carry Pro HD and in this thread you have the Super Carry Custom HD. The main difference between the two "besides barrel length" is the Pro has a carbon steel bull barrel bushingless and the Custom has a SS barrel with bushing. Which one is it? If you have the Custom the 500B will look the best.

Your right...I have had no major problems with the Kimber mags however, the Wilson which are manufactured over around the northwest corner of Arkansas (not in Berryville) do seem to "function" with a little more smoothness.
