Custom II Still My Favorite Kimber

I still like this set up best. I love the minimalism, though I did add G10 grips. I even like the black metal sights. I do splurge on Chip McCormick and Wilson mags.

Who loves the simple black Custom II with nonambi thumb safety? Me.

Nothing wrong with simple/basic.

I like simple but an ambi safety I like having cause I am a lefty. I like having a lot of magazines so I like taking advantage the price at joe's magmania. I probably own close to two dozen and have not had any problems.

I think we should all consider returning to the BASICs from time-to-time...nice looking Kimber, creedal. The grips did it for me!

I did change out the Kimber full length guide rod system for a Wilson short rod with flat coil spring and Ed Brown plunger. A bit easier to strip.

My Custom ll is still one of my favorite guns to shoot. Over 2500 rounds with no failures of any kind, makes me a happy shooter.

Original Custom Classic

How about an original Custom Classic,(not a II) circa 1994 (as I remember). Honestly, after one magazine I knew I got a good one, knew it was something special. Basic black and dressed to kill. A few minor add-on's for some fast, fun shooting .... the Valkyrie muzzle brake/bushing is not exactly minimalist but it works and looks badazz. The other changes were basically for ergonomics....aluminum grips, fiber optic front sight and Wilson mag well funnel....but never seen a gunsmith. I have done a little polishing here and there and changed the springs after several years. A real keeper and shooter. Easily shoots one hole groups at combat ranges and hammers 8" steel plates at 50yrds. Plus it feeds everything, runs hollow points and wadcutters as easily as hardball. This gun leaves a lot of guys at the range looking at their guns and scratching their heads.

Now I'll make you cry just a little ....I got the gun NIB and I have more invested in the holster and accessories than in the gun. Due to some clever trading and bartering I have about $250.00 invested in everything in the photo...including the gun. I was offered $700.00 for it ....didn't take it....told the guy it would take another $1000.00 added to that to pry it from my hands. It would take me at least that much to find something that shoots like it does.

I always change stuff. I need ambi safeties (left handed shooting pistols), I like thin front sights, GI recoil guide rod and cap, adjustable rear sights and my guns are used in USPSA games, so magwell and spring upgrades. Nothing that could be considered bling though, all functional upgrades.

Well almost all. There's this: 1911 SKULL SPRING PLUG... BRONZE 3D SERIES - Wicked Grips
