Kimber vs Walther

Some days it just doesn't get any better! Today the range instructor asked me/offered for me to compare a brand new Walther PPQ M2 with my Kimber GMII. He asked me not because I'm a good shot or an extremely experienced shooter since I'm neither. He is a big guy, maybe 6'3", 250 lbs or so with huge hands. I'm his antithesis - a very short (5') woman with hands that are the size of child's! He wanted a "petite female's" opinion of the Walther. It was great fun and I really enjoyed shooting the PPQ. If someone wanted to give me one, I wouldn't turn it down. It was well balanced with a trigger that was so easy to feel even though it's a DA/SA. I shot 5 rounds at 7 yards then 10 rounds at 10 yards. I then shot the same amount at the same distance using my GMII. (I was really there shooting my micro CDP). While I really like the Walther, I'm a Kimber 1911 girl at heart and, even though the Kimber had an advantage since I've put 400 round through it and am used to shooting it, the Kimber just can't be beat and it makes me look like I know what I'm doing! The first target is at 7 yards. The shots off to the right are the Walther 5 and the center the GMII. The shots off to the left are the GMII at 10 yards and the right target the Walther at 10 yards. I have to say I would've changed the backstrap to a small if I owned the Walther.

Don't worry, we won't tell anyone that KimberGirl was seen playing with a Walther. Sounds like you had a good time. Doesn't make you a bad person.

I have a 9mm PPQ and it's a good gun with a nice trigger for a striker-fired gun but I wouldn't choose it over any of my 1911's.

I love my Kimbers, but my Walther P99 is my absolute favorite handgun ever.

Anyway you look at it...your results as evidenced by the targets you posted show me you know what you're doing...I'd call it "expert" shooting!

Thanks Cyber, you're kind. The Kimber makes me look good! My brother says 10 yards is close enough to throw the bullets and hit where I want lol.

I only have one Walther and it's the PPK 380.

Bond, James Bond.

Took everything in me not to do the Bond theme and then turn and shoot the PPQ while at the range!

Tell your brother that the various stats on the typical distance for defensive shootings are within 7 yards. The FBI says in several reports over the years show that in the "real world" the typical distances vary from 3 to 7 yards. So, I'd say your practice distances matches the real world stat's. Of course, it can be fun to try your hand at greater distances, but know that your targets demonstrate that the "bad" guys should be VERY afraid!

Same here, husband has the 9mm PPQ and it's a nice shooter, I always enjoy taking it out but yep, wouldn't choose it over a 1911.
