Question Kimber Compact Carry model lineage

I have a Compact Carry that I picked up from a friend back in 2002. In describing it to people, I usually say it's a first gen compact carry since Kimber has changed their model names like some people change underwear.

Is there any resource on the web that actually gives dates and models and their features/differences from the beginning of the Kimber Compact series? For instance, I'm at my core a S&W revolver guy. I can find literally 100s of good reference sites that can give models/features through the years from the turn of the 20th century from 1st model hand ejectors, through all the 5-4-3 screw models to the end of the pinned barrel models.......ad-nauseam.

But try as I might, I can't find any such history about Kimber 1911s.

Hello and welcome to the forum. When it comes to explaining the Compact Kimber to folks that only know the Ultra model, I just tell them the Compact has a 4 inch barrel on the Ultra frame. This usually clears it up.

I don't know of any particular website that breaks down Kimber history. Every once in a while a thread will post that have a little more information than the last.

Oh, one of the reasons for my asking this is that I'm thinking about selling it. Whenever I sell something I usually see what they are going for on gunbroker and such. But what are all the "comparable" Models?! What exactly do I search for?

You can do a search for Kimber Compact. There are only a few models of the compact line. The model you have is stamped on the right side of the slide.

To obtain additional information with regard to the production runs and nomenclature of compact pistols, I'd suggest contacting customer service. If they don't have such information, they probably know who you could contact that does have access to it!! That's my best guess!!! Contact:

Yes, mine is actually a Stainless Ultra Carry. It's stamped under the clip draw so I forgot what it was since I hadn't seen it in a year.

But what are the years for the Ultra Carry before they went to the Ultra Carry II and what are the differences?

I can't help you with the years but Kimbers with "II" in the name have a Firing Pin Block safety added - it's a version of an old 1930's design called a Swartz FP block, intended to prevent the firing pin from moving forward under inertia from being dropped or something. It is deactivated by a plunger in the frame when the grip safety is depressed.
