1911 Magazine

I am new to Kimber 1911’s. The magazines go in about 3/4 of the way and stop. It takes a firm smack to fully seat the magazine. Is it normal for the mags to go in so tight? I forgot to mention, it is a new Kimber 1911 stainless custom 2. I have one Kimber 7 round mag and four 8 round WC mags. They all do the same

Do they drop free when you push the mag release button?
Are the magazines loaded to capacity with ammunition?
Is the slide fully forward when you were inserting the mag

Yes, they drop free with good force. The mags are empty when I’m inserting them and the slide is fully forward

Without actually experiencing that condition with your gun I would think that that is normal; as the magazine goes up into the mag well it's going to first encounter the mag catch itself and compress that as it slides to the full seat position then the mag catch engages the slot in the magazine. You'll even experience a little more resistance if the magazine is fully loaded and the slide is forward that would be the top round in the magazine pressing up against the bottom of the slide compressing the magazine spring just a little bit before the magazine will lock in place. Please don't take this wrong but I have to ask, is this your first 1911?

Oh and by the way, I don't smack my magazines in place I just firmly press them in until I hear the click. I like the KimPro TacMags because they come with two different size bump pads you can screw onto the bottom. They do two things for you. If your drop Mag on the ground it will save the base plate and 2 it makes it easier to push them into place.

Yes, that is normal and (for me) happens with almost every gun.

What I do is just push the mag release button in at the point the resistance occurs and then firmly (not slapping) snap the mag in place.

Cuca nailed it, I don't believe there is anything wrong with your gun or magazines. I'm also a big fan of the Kimber Kim Pro Tac-Mag.

Just for grins Quickdraw, post a picture of your new Hot Rod with the magazine inserted up to the resistance point. Then we'll know for sure.
