Question Issues with a .45 KimPro TacMag magazine

Ok. I got this magazine in a trade (interesting enough it came with a SIG ). It had only the thick bumper pad shown i the pictures.
The SIG is gone but I kept the magazine. I had not tried the magazine before and today I took it with me for the first shootout of our new Stainless Pro Carry II. A fiend of ours with exactly the same pistol was present as well.

The issue:
The magazine is an 8 rounds magazine. If I load it with only 7 rounds, everything is fine. If I load it with 8 rounds it does not stay in place. I can insert it, push, keep it firm in position, but the magazine release does not engage and when I release the pressure the magazine falls back. This happened today with both our Kimber and our Friend's Kimber (that, again, are the same exact model).
This problem did not happen with the standard Kimber 7 rounds magazine nor with other 8 rounds magazines (different brands) that we had with us.

When loaded with 8 rounds we could not see anything strange or out of place. The magazine is used but does not seems abused.

Before I disassemble the magazine, is there anything that I should know? Maybe it's just something as simple as bending a lip.

Tomorrow, if needed I'll upload a picture of the mag with 8 rounds in it.

Wink Hmmmm!!

That definitely appears to be an 8 rd mag. All I can suggest is to disassemble the magazine and give it a good cleaning. I believe that there must be some gunk or debris in the bottom preventing the spring from fully compressing. Thus it will not lock into proper position to function.

If that fails, I have a cure for your problem. I had a Chip McCormack Shooting Star magazine that caused feeding problems. See attached photo below to see how I cured the problem. It never had a feeding issue again!!!

Can't really help you with your magazine problem I have only heard good things about the KimPro magazines but never tried one myself. I have been running some 8 round Chip McCormicks in a variety of different brand guns over the last 12 years or so without any problems. I just changed the followers in them to the "Power mag plus" to use in a aluminum framed gun. The old C.M. mags are not safe to use in aluminum framed guns because after the last shot the follower would go forward and hit the frame under the feed ramp and put minor dings in the frame. Not really a big problem but over time may become a bigger problem. Hope you get it worked out.

Thank you! I'll disassemble the magazine later today.
Yesterday I tried the magazine with another full size SIG, and I had the same problem, so definitely it is the magazine.

I noticed that if I lock the slide back first and then I insert the magazine, everything seems to be OK, and if I release the slide, it loads the first round correctly.
The interference happens only when the slide is forward.

Ok. I did not want to wait...

I disassembled the mag:

Discovered that without any of the two metallic floor plates, the magazine worked fine:

So the problem seemed to be with one of the floor plates (but they look OK to me).

Then I continued to take the spring out and discovered that it was upside down:

I inverted it, put the two floor plates back in and... same problem. I can push as had as I want but it falls back.

By the way, I inserted the second floor plate in a 7 rounds magazine, after removing the plastic pad and I had the same problem.

Here are a couple of additional pictures:

I know, it would be easier to throw it away, but I think that we need to get to the bottom of it .

By the way, listen at your own risk!!

Angry What The Over.......?

I'm an ex-telephone Lineman and I found that video offensive!!! That guy is a real master of the English language, ain't he???? His mama should have fed him a bar of LAVA SOAP when he was little and then beat some manners into him!!!

HOW RUDE!!!

Why throw the mag away. Shooting it is much more fun!!! I mounted that CMC mag on a plaque and it hangs on the wall in my Computer Room/Man Cave!!! Bagged that trophy in the back yard!!!

I shut off the video when he cautioned the owners not to damage the spring, and then yanked on it like a Prospect "pleasuring" himself for the first time.

I take can-openers apart more carefully...

(I must admit, I did like his comments on inspecting the position of parts during disassembly. I actually lay out parts in a reverse explosion diagram on a large pad when I work on something for the first time.)

You only need one floor plate (as you call it).
