Interesting Little Aegis

First time post here but I've enjoyed reading others for some time. Anyway I thought maybe some would get a kick out of this Ultra Aegis II that I bought new when they first came out back in 2006.

Bought it from a large Master Kimber Dealer of the time here in Texas. He had a story with it saying that Kimber shipped it to him by mistake. He said it's the serial number 1 gun. Anyway he went on to explain why and how he knows all this which I thought was an interesting story but I've always had a rule when buying. "Buy the gun not the story" so I bought the gun. Anyway the serial is KUFA001.

During the Fall of that year I noticed the new Kimber Aegis on the covers of a couple gun review magazines. The Shooting Times 2007 Buyers Guide has the Kimber Aegis with serial KUFA003 on the cover. 2007 Annual Handguns Magazine also depicts one on their cover but it’s the opposite side of the serial number so I opened it up and found that they had the KUFA002 to evaluate and review. I bought both magazines to keep thinking that maybe the story the Kimber Dealer told me had a bit of truth in it.

I decided to call Kimber Customer Service recently and spoke with a Representative to look up the date of manufacture. After I gave him the serial number he said “uhmm that’s interesting, looks like it was the first one produced”. He said that the prefix KUFA was used in the first production run of the pistol. The K- is for Kimber, U-is for the Ultra Frame, F-is for 9mm caliber, and the A-is for the Aegis Model. It dates August 29th, 2006 according to their records. He also confirmed that the other low serial numbered guns would be sent to the gun writers and gun magazines of the time for publicity reviews.

Sorry for the long post. Thanks for having me.

Welcome to the KT forum, and the very interesting story about your pistol. With that low s/n, it should be worth a bit more some day to the right buyer, especially with the magazines for reference.

I've wondered about how they prefix their s/n's, now I know. Thanks for the info.

RangeMaster, awesome story and very cool, hang onto that Ultra. Don't hear documented stories like that every day. My SIS models are not that old.
Welcome to the site from Tennessee.

Ditto what 2Sharp2 said. Great gun and gun story. I know I'd pay extra for it. I bet everyone at the range wants to see.

Actually I know this is crazy but it's never been to the range. It's still like new in the case. I've never fired it. Soon after I purchased it I went in a different direction with an off-duty carry. The only thing that I did with it was throw away the little tube of oil that Kimber gave you. If you don't use those they tend leak eventually soaking the box paperwork and foam. And of course the night sights are dead now but it still has the Kimber hang tag attached. The post pics are recent. Thanks everybody for the likes.

Greetings from southeast Texas. What a great story, what’s the odds of buying a pistol like that.
