Slim grips vs regular

I'm interested in a set of Kimber slim grips but there is no information on them on the Kimber site. What is the difference? I assume they are "slimmer', duh, but how do they compare to standard grips? Anyone have the technical specs?

The physical difference isn't much maybe 1/8th of an inch but the way they feel in your hand is what counts. I have a set I used on an Ultra CDP 9mm that I used to teach two ladies to shoot. Both ladies were on the small side and had no trouble with the standard grips but just on a whim I installed the slim grips and they both preferred them. Remember if you're going to install a set of slim grips you're also going to have to install a set of slim bushings and slim grip screws.

Depending on the brand it could be a bit thinner/thicker. Slim Grips reduce the overall thickness of your 1911 by approximately 3/16". Each slim grip panel is approximately 5/32" thick

Approximate Thickness for 1911 Grips:

Standard Thickness = .270 at bolt holes

Slim Line Thickness = .190 at bolt holes

https://www.stonercnc.com/1911-grip-guide

Raasco Standard Thickness grips run about 0.26" thick at the center of the grip. Our Slim Thickness grips run about 0.165" thick at the center of the grip. Thickness of magwell grips can vary slightly from these thicknesses as we match the height of the magwell.

Not the best video that I have seen, but he has different sized grips that he will put back to back to show the different thickness of each one.

Going to be a personal feel kind of thing, you will have to try slim grips for yourself.

Not sure I actually want to go that route, but I was curious about the differences. Kind of weird that the Kimber shop doesn't have any technical specs on their grips.

I could be dreaming but I was thinking a few Kimber models come with slim grips already. Maybe like the Sapphire, Diamond and maybe some other Special Editions?

Am I wrong?

Who knows, but I just opened my grip box and compared a Kimber grip to a VZ, Stag, and LOK grips and not much different in thickness if any on a standard 1911 grip.

I have bought one set of slim grips and removed them after finding out my hand was too big and they just didn't feel right to me.

Interesting question Arland. I know that they sell them on their site.

Slim grips do not provide me any advantage or disadvantage holding my pistols. If they have the big thumb groove, that helps some in releasing the magazine. (short thumb syndrome)
