Help with TLE II stainless

Hello all. New member here. Wanted to ask the experts for their advice. I have owned a TLE II stainless for about 10 years. It had started to rust so I sent it back to Kimber. They are unable to fix the rust and offered me a credit for a replacement. The new replacement would cost about 765.

I'm not sure if I should take this offer or have someone else try and fix it or if it's too far gone. Their repair person at kimber said that the rust was pretty bad. I have attached pictures and I'm looking forward to your responses.

Thank you.

First, welcome to KT.

Second, where do you live that it would cause such a rust problem? Was it stored for those 10 years or actively used? Not to criticize, but am curious.

Perhaps you could have a good Cerakote applicator bead blast it and put a new coat on to make it look better. Are the barrel and internals rusted too? The smaller internal parts aren't that expensive to replace vs new gun.

Welcome to the site from Tennessee! No expert about the rust problem but it does not look that bad to me and I would think a quality Cerakote company would be able to make it look better than new.
Kimber's offer for a replacement cost seems to high to me but what do I know.

Thanks for the reply. I live in New Jersey. It was stored in its original case in a climate controlled closet. It has been used for range use more frequently the first 5 years and in the last 5 years more sparingly. Perhaps once or twice a year . I have read other situations where this has occurred on the same model.

My other dilemma is that I wouldn't know where to begin to take it or send it for repair.

Thanks again.

Welcome to the forum from northern Illinois, my first concern would be the internal parts of the gun. Have you broken it down yet, try removing the slide and posting some pictures of it. If the only rust is on the outer surface then that shouldn't be too difficult to correct. This would be a good time for Cundiff5535 to join in, he's the owner of Freedom Color USA (Cerakote Application Shop).

Welcome to the forum from St Lou..

Like Chuck said, if all the rust is on the exterior it shouldn't be too bad to fix it up..
Chuck also mentioned Freedom Color USA which is owned by one of our members and does awesome work with Cerakote..

Never store in foam rubber. Strip it glass bead with 120 at about 50psi or cerakote if you want a color change or pitted so bad you want them filled and recoated.
