Ultra CDP II 45 Super?

Is it safe to shoot 10mm Super out of a Ultra CDP II? What would I have to modify on the gun to make this happen?

EDIT: Is it safe to shoot 45 Super out of a Ultra CDP II? Sorry, I was writing this in a hurry and typed the wrong caliber. I'm also considering getting a 10mm - hence the confusion.

Thanks!

I've never heard of 10mm Super? If your ultra is chambered for .45 I think you're pretty much going to need to stick with .45. Keep in mind the CDPs and many other Kimbers have an aluminum frames to make them more carry friendly. Too much +P or +P+ ammo can cause excessive wear. I'm pretty sure .45 Super is a different cartridge than .45ACP so it probably won't be an option either.

No, not unless that barrel is stamped 10mm which itís not. If you want to shoot 10mm buy a 10mm, I personally donít think it would be worth the money if it was possible. You can get a 10mm Ruger 1911 for around $750 new and you can probably find an RIA for less than that and there is always the used market.

10mm Super? Are you talking about a .45 Super necked down to 10mm? The conversion could be accomplished by swapping out the .45 ACP barrel with the .40 Super barrel and upgrading the recoil spring system with a heavy duty spring. The recoil spring could prove to be a problem because the Ultra uses a dual recoil spring assembly. Existing .45 ACP magazines can be utilized with no modifications. I could see doing this with a 5" or 6" ported long slide for hunting but why would you want to do it with a 3" Ultra? That puppy would be brutal to shoot and the short barrel wouldn't allow it to develop it's full potential.

Sorry, I meant 45 super, not 10mm super - see edit in original post. It was fun to watch you all try to figure out what I meant though :-)

Strictly for informational purposes only!!!! My guess would be no with the CDP's aluminum frame.

Manufacturers have been messing around with a cartridge like this at least since the 1980s.

I was sent a manual--which I still have--on the Detonics Magnum. It fired a 185 grain bullet.

I had them send me all of the heavier springs since they said that the pistol would cycle a regular .45 ACP round with the heavier replacements.

Then again, I remember shooting metallic silhouette. Lots of guys bought Ruger single actions in .45 (long) Colt. They loaded them hot to make the mythical ".45 Magnum."

I hear Ruger got a lot of broken guns back...

I would agree with this statement. I have a 6Ē stainless Steel 45 Super. Heavier springs, 22lbs, and it still take a good beating. Iím not sure I would want to try that in an aluminum Ultra frame.

Buy the 10 mm while you are researching the 45 super cartridge in a CDP II. I have a CDP Pro II and I would be hesitant to run that ammo. If you try that ammo I would consider installing a shock buffer on the guide rod.

If you like fast rounds you will enjoy the 10 mm
