Kimber Long Slide Review

Hello everyone,
I just joined the forum and wanted to tell about my Kimber Long slides. I have the 45acp and 10mm and, am happy overall with both.
I have shot about 350 rounds in the 45 and about 250 rounds in the 10mm with no malfunctions of any kind.

On both guns, everything is tight and the finish is good. The extra length seems to make it easier to shoot tight groups, and both guns shoot better than I am capable of.

They have no firing pin safety and, the mainspring housings are steel.

The wood grips that came on both guns were very dark, almost black and unattractive. I was disappointed with this however, I had some nice English walnut grips that I had been wanting to put on some pistols.

The 45 magazine is the usual worthless type that Kimber includes with their pistols however, the 10mm magazine is pretty good. The follower has a “skirt” on the front to keep it from tilting.

On the barrels of both guns, there are tool marks between the lugs on top of the barrels. I have not seen this on other 1911s but I don’t think it hurts anything. There are also tool marks on the lower lugs. Also, both barrels appear to have been sanded with fine sand paper and do not have a polished appearance. The barrel crowns are shallow and the muzzle end of the barrels also have fine sandpaper marks.

The recoil spring guide rods are the short, GI type and the recoil spring plug is extended with a spacer inside. This allows the use of standard length recoil springs. The plug seems heavier than it should be, almost slightly weighted. Maybe to add weight to the muzzle end?

Welcome to the site from Tennessee. Long slide indeed, looks good.

Send me any worthless Kimber magazines you don't like/want, I've never had a problem with any of mine.
