Classic Custom Info Sought

In '95 or '96 I bought a Kimber Classic Custom 1911 new. It had a cosmetic flaw-apparently the finish to the slide had been improperly applied, resulting in a fairly faint "plumb" color. I've kept it because it's a fantastic shooter.

I've check Fjstaad and the Wiki link, and spoken to the factory folks. No one has any real info on the pistol, other than a brief Blue Book comment about the ones labelled as such being discontinued right after the move to Yonkers. Does anyone have any data on this pistol? I have no interest in selling it, but I would at some point like to have it refinished. Any recommends on a good finish?

Unfortunately when Kimber moved from Clackamas, Oregon to Yonkers, New York a lot of their old records were lost. Over the years I have done numerous searches trying to find anything I can on old Kimbers and have never had any luck.

I purchased mine in 02 the only real difference is it does not have the Swartz safety. and the II models do. I'm sure if i'm wrong someone will chime in. of all my Kimber's it's the only one I could never part with..

You're right bigdog10 unless it has a II after it's name it doesn't have the firing pin safety, I also have one in my collection.

The plumb color was caused by the bluing salts being to hot - In 95-96 the factory rep brought 3 of them as a on loan to a local range in NY for try outs - shot better than a Gold Cup out the box. I was offered a job in Yonkers in the Custom shop back them but had just retired and wasn't really interested.
