Better sights

I decided since this will be, once fully broke in, my primary carry gun, it needed better sights. The fixed sights on the Kimber Ultra Carry II are very good, for what they are. However, when placed on a dark background, they disappear. So, a bit of modification was necessary. Now, they not only do not disappear, they actually jump into view as the gun is brought up to my aiming position. I have done this with a couple of my guns and it is always an improvement.

Something I doubt many of us have thought about, but should consider when replacing sights on a carry gun. My main Kimber is my Super Carry Pro that comes with a great set of meprolight sights. Earlier this year I suffered a pinched nerve in my neck that weakened my left hand, I couldn't squeeze toothpaste out of the tube with it let alone grip the slide to cock any of my handguns, this left 4 of my 5 pistols useless to me. The meprolight sights with the cocking shoulder on my Super Carry allowed me to hook the rear sight on the pocket of my jeans and cock the gun as fast as I could do it with two good hands. My hand is fine now but it definitely made me aware of a requirement I want on a carry gun because you never know.

I like the looks of the meprolights and may well go that way, eventually. My thought here was to get something in place that was quick and easy. It works and takes all the guess work out of break-in firing.
I did the same thing to my LCP and it makes a huge difference there.

Paint

What type of paint did you use to apply to your sights? It looks very good.

I bought that special paint which is ultra glow-in-the-dark, and while it is really effective in the dark, it is practically useless because it needs to be radiated by sunlight, or very bright LEDs, to activate the phosphor in it, which of course means that when you pull the gun from a dark drawer, it is useless.

I added Meprolight Trititium sites to my Kimber, in addition to the laser on it, and the sights are excellent in the dark, with a lifespan of 10 years.

I use an Elmer's brand Opaque Paint Marker Pen. It has a small tip/brush on the end that allows for pretty good control of the paint flow.

I think the TruGlo TFO sights are far and away the best. Bright day and night. I wish I could get them for my Walther. TRUGLO
