Bobtail (round butt) 1911s

Does anyone have any experience or opinion about bobtail frames as opposed to regular grip frames on Pro model Kimbers or other commander sized 1911s?

My concern is that with large hands, I may not find them as easy to grip. I’m looking around locally to find some I can handle, but until I do, i’d appreciate input.

IMO "Bobtail" and "Round Butt/Round Heel" are two different animals.

I LOVE Round butt/or round Heel! I am not a big fan of the Bobtail look. I could be wrong but I don't think Kimber offers a true Bobtail frame.

A bobtail frame is just a regular frame with the outside corner cut on a 45 degree or so angle. Round butt frames like on the Super Carry, Classic Carry, Master Carry, Aegis and a couple of other models are another story. My favorite Kimbers in my collection are all round butt guns. I have large hands and they fit perfectly, they don't print under a shirt and are sweet just to look at. Of the lot my Super Carry Pro is my all time favorite 1911.

Thanks guys for helping. Chuck I appreciate your answer to my hand question, and for straightening out the bobtail/round butt clarification.

Sorry to be so needy, but I want opinions before I do one of my “I’ll take it” things.

A nice "round butt" does feel nice in the hand and prints less under clothing .

Why don't you hit your LGS and try handling any of the round butt Kimbers. Kimber uses the same frame for all of their round butt guns.

Am going to try this week. There is no dealer that stocks Kimber within 100 miles of me, but I'm going to go on a hunt for one that has a few, hopefully a round butt (which makes me laugh every time I type it).

And will make you smile every time you hold it in your hand.
