It's been bleedin' hot here for the last month, temps over 90* every day. I don't do well in the heat, but have been waiting to get out with my new Aegis Elite Custom again, but I'd rather not be a sweat-ball out there. So today I got my arse out of the fart sack at dawn before it got hot, and zipped out to the outback with my Aegis Elite and Ultra CDP II, both in 9mm to ring some steel.
I gathered up all the Kimber and WC mags I have on hand; really like the Wilson ETM 10-rounders, especially for range work. Plenty of H2O and off I went.
Set up my pseudo range steel at ten yards with the new swinger No.1 son made for me, along with ten combat silhouettes, five on each side of the swinger. Pic taken with fresh paint....didn't last too long though:
I took a 'mega-pack' of 250 rounds of R-P 115gr ball for the fun. Ran 200 through the Aegis Elite, and 150 through the UCDP II....no failures of any kind in either gun.
Now she's showing signs of being properly 'broken-in':
I've posted my impressions of the Aegis Elite here in the recent past, but after a couple of hours with it again on steel, the combination of the excellent Vortex Venom 6 MOA MRDS and the all-steel construction of the Aegis to tame what little recoil the 9mm has, this is by far the most accurate, tightest fitting Kimber I own (or any other 1911 for that matter). I'm also lovin' that round butt.
And the speed I can now attain in rapid fire with this combination has really opened my biased dinosaur eyes to "new tricks". Yes, I am quite impressed with this pistol.
