Your Opinion on Getting Robar NP3+ Coating on this Kimber Ultra Carry II

This Kimber Ultra Carry II is my nicest pistol (photo 1). I shoot about 150 rounds every weekend. The paint on the aluminum frame is starting to wear off at the main friction areas. I would like to have the frame coated in NP3 Plus Firearm Finish by Robar (Robarguns.com). I am trying to determine if the cost is “worth it” given the current wear on the pistol. The coating cost is $200 for just the frame, or $400 for a complete coating (including all internal and external parts and one mag). Not a massive investment, but also not trivial.

My question is this: In your opinion, is there still enough life left in this pistol to justify having it coated in NP3? Is the wear in photos 3, 4 and 5 “normal” and nothing to be worried about, or is this type of wear problematic for significant future use? If I can get another 50,000 rounds through this pistol, the coating would be worth it to me (approx 150-200 rounds per week for 5 years).

I know this is a subjective! Just getting the general thoughts of people far more knowledgable than me about wear on Kimber Pistols. Thank you in advance.

I don’t know anything about NP3 but I’m thinking anywhere that’s a friction area is going to eventually wear.

Looks like you're just starting to get the pistol broken in.

Any finish you put on the gun is going to eventually show wear, unless you keep it locked up in the safe.

Not that it matters if you intend to keep the gun, but refinishing will actually reduce its value. Most collectors would MUCH rather have an all original gun than a gun that's been refinished.

These handguns are put together with tight tolerances. The wear is what is breaking in. You should be fine. Enjoy your shooting and be safe.

If you are worried about the length of life of the gun itself vs. the new coating, you are looking at it wrong.

The gun itself will/should last forever. ie, frame, slide, etc. The only thing that will change over time is the springs and barrel.
I’d just keep track of that while always inspecting internals when breaking down for cleaning. I wouldn’t worry. You have many miles to go. Go shoot it and have fun.

Awesome, thank you all for the feedback. Looks like my concerns are unwarranted! I'll spend that 200-400 dollars on some extra ammo. Very impressed with this pistol.

Wise decision. All mine look similar.

My UC2 is not a target gun, it's just for defense. I wear it every day, for six years.

Strangely I have no dings or scratches. I have a Bianchi holster (with a trigger guard lock) and I always wear a shirt over the pistol.

If anything, some of the finish is coming off the back of the frame rails, that 's it.
