can someone tell me the difference?!?

Went to range today with my ultra Stainless II that kept infeed jamming last week. After a polishing and very small burr removed happy to say no jams today after 100rds from both my stock 7rd mags and the Wilson Comat 10rd mags.
But noticed this at range, never noticed it before, they're both Kimber 7rd mags with different carriers... Ask buddy the range officer he didn't know and guy a gun shop didn't know exactly but the WC's had the down piece and McCormick's didn't....

I have mags like that. Some Wilson, some other brands. I just assumed the, "down piece" really isn't necessary and is added as a means of being different. If you think about it, it offers nothing in the way of better operation, or even appearance.

I really think they're both welded... they both have the Kimber brand on them, they both work, but the one looks like it could do the nose dive on the last shot....

I have seven magazines for my .45 Ultra CDPII, five from Kimber and two from Chip McCormick. The two oldest ones from Kimber have the skirted follower (what I am assuming you are calling the down piece), the three other Kimber magazines are identical to the Chip McCormicks, which I believe are the makers of the "shooting star" magazines.

As long as they work, I wouldn't worry about it.....

YMMV

I like the looks of the skirt better,
but I suppose I'm what these days gets called a straight white sexist fan of the patriarchy.

The skirt prevents the follower from rocking forward.
