Recommendation??

Thinking about using a red dot on one of my Kimber's. Will probably use one of the Vortex models, but can anyone recommend a dovetail base? would really prefer not to mill the slide, but I see a lot of bases but none for Kimber's and one says Colt 501....

I'm running a Vortex Venom 6 MOA red dot, but it's a factory installed item on the Aegis Elite (OI) models. Love everything about it.

Upon close inspection of my Kimber Aegis Elite, it can be clearly seen that the rear of the slide has indeed been relief milled to accept the sight base.

Also, if you go with a red dot sight, you'll need (or not) suppressor-height irons to co-witness with the red-dot. You might be better off getting another pistol with the sight factory installed.

Also, do know that if you have your slide milled, you void the Kimber warranty. Sounds like a good excuse to buy another Kimber WITH the optic installed.

Here's a list of variants for different guns/rds.

Now those are some nice options to avoid the machine work. Did not know they existed.

I love America.....whenever a need arises, a fellow with imagination comes forward to solve the problem and we all win.

The guys at EGW who make those mounts are great. I called em up a few years ago about the scope mount on my Savage .22. I told them all I could find was was 20MOA mounts but I needed 40MOA. They said no problem. They custom cut the mount to 40MOA for $25 including new shorter screws. Fantastic folks to work with.

My 300yd .22 thanks to EGW.

Thank you, That's what I envisioned, but couldn't find except a plastic one.. much rather see more metal added than removed!?!

Evolution Gun Works (EGW), that has been mentioned makes sight mounts that replace the rear sight. They're about $50. Pistol and Red Dot Mounts: EGW Gun Parts

I have one for my competition S&W M&P 5" and run a Vortex Venom.
