Replacing Guide Rod Recommendations

I want to get rid of the Kimber guide rod and replace it with something that I don't need use a take down tool with. I would like recommendations, including links or part numbers. I don't know what I should be getting, just a rod? Should I also replace the spring while I'm at it?

Is replacing the guide rod even feasible?

I have an Aegis Elite Pro.

TIA!

I know this doesn't answer your question, but I have Honey clean mine so I don't have to fight with the take down tool. I just bought for him! LOL!

Morning, guess it’s still early yet. Replacing guide rod/spring is an easy highly recommended procedure. Someone will be along soon to help you. I can’t as I only have Ultras and they don’t make a flat spring for them.

Batty, the #651 spring kit that SpecCop posted the link to is the one you need. Once it's installed you will not need any tools to break the gun down and the flat wire recoil spring included with the kit will be good for 40,000 rounds.

1911 3" Guide Rod Kit (Fits Colt Defender, Kimber CDP/Ultra Carry) For 45 ACP Blued: EGW Gun Parts

From what I remember a few members tried these and didnít have much success but maybe they made improvements.

Batty: Not sure if your pistol is the 4 or 5'' model, but either way there are full length guide rods available to fit your pistol. There are only two types of FL guide rods available; the one piece or the two piece. The one piece FL guide rod is not difficult to install or disassemble if you know what your're doing. There are many online videos available to explain how to do it, and basically all you need is a bushing wrench or strong fingers. Many people like the two piece GR and put a drop of loctite on the threads before assembling. However, I've never seen one come loose in 60 years of shooting. FYI, I have one piece GR on all my 1911's. Check out Brownell's for both types and good shooting.

If I remember correctly one company (EGW Gun Parts) makes/made one. We had a thread going on it and it just died. Some of the members that tried one are still active on the forum and may update us on it.

I tried one on my Stainless Ultra .45 and it did not work. Called EGW and they accepted a return and promptly refunded my $s
