Possible mag issue

I recently bought a new Ultra Carry II in 9mm and it came with the standard Kimber magazine. I carry with 1 in the chamber and when I get home at night I always release the magazine and rack the slide to eject the chambered round before putting in my safe. I notice when I release the magazine there's usually a loose round that comes out as well. Is there a retention issue with the magazine?

While I own an Ultra II it is a .45. So I do not claim to KNOW the 9mm. That said, I have never heard of this before nor has it ever happened with any of my auto-loaders, (9mm or otherwise).
So, to sort of answer your question, yes, I would be concerned. If you bought it from a dealer, take it back and have them look at it. They can probably analyze any issues, first hand, better than we could on a forum. If you bought it from another person, take it to a local gunsmith or highly rated dealer. A few bucks for an inspection and, (possibly), instructions on how to properly clear the weapon would be cheap insurance.
BTW, the Browning design does not NEED to be cleared every night. Once you get the mag issue figured, you can make that choice for storage if you desire.

Mine are never unloaded, unless pointed at a target!

I'm having the same problem with an Ultra Aegis II 9mm I bought new a month ago. 300 down pipe so far. Almost every time I have one chambered and drop the mag, a loose round follows the mag out. Sometimes it (the top round) is sitting halfway out, on it's way to be chambered. I'm assuming it's a mag issue. I asked this forum for mag suggestions and will get some new ones after I recover from holiday spending.
Stay in touch, lets figure this out. Then we can help others who may encounter this issue.

Mag issue

After discussing my mag issue with a few local smiths I decided to buy a Wilson Combat magazine and that has solved the problem I was having with regard to a round coming loose when I pulled my magazine out to unload my Ultra.

Just want to say hi as I found this site while dealing with Kimber. Does the mag you are using have a step in the follower such as the one on the top?

The OEM mag that came with the gun did have the 'step.'

I've since acquired a KimPro-tec and two Wilson Combat mags. I like them much better.
